Celestún Excursion
Canoe trip into the heart of the mangroves in the Bio-Reserve of Celestún

Spend the day alongside Jose, a specialist in flora and fauna, who will take us on a two hour canoe trip through the red, white, and black Celestún mangroves!

Our passionate local guide will teach you everything about these natural spaces that make up the bio-reserve of Celestún. He actively participates in the reforestation of mangroves that have disappeared as a result of drastic climate change, and fights to preserve the biodiversity in these ecosystems.

Depending on the season you will have the chance to watch flamingos and birds of Mexico.

* Being wild and in their natural habitats, seeing every animal is not guaranteed.

Departure is between: 6:30 and 7:00 AM

Duración: 2 horas

Language: Spanish & English

Groups of 1 to 3 people

Easy 24 hour cancellation policy

Included in the excursion:

  • Guided trip through the mangroves with explanations on the ecosystem: vegetation, different bird species, and other animals that live on the reserve

  • Visit the flamingos (September - February)

  • Mangrove Cemetery

Make sure you bring:

  • Binoculars (super important if you want to observe the animals more closely)

  • Eco-friendly bug spray (there are a lot of mosquitos in this environment during the summer)

🚙 Meeting point

Jose will wait for you at the meet up point, which is just inside the Celestún reserve. There is a more detailed explanation on the main road of Celestún.

🍃Ecotourism initiative

José proposes excursions in Canoa. The fact of using a boat without engine allows us to limit our impact on the ecosystem of the reserves of Celestún.
We only suggest to realise the tour when the pink flamingos are away from the bank.
